The Conversations about Suicide course teaches participants how to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
Course participants learn how to recognise and respond to suicidal thoughts and behaviours, provide support and encourage pathways to professional help.
Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports.
Alastair combines lived experience of mental crisis along with his experience as a long-term contract Facilitator for Lifeline to deliver an impactful MHFA experience.

Curiosity and compassion
My mission is to create safer spaces for health, learning and growth.
I create psychologically safer spaces to facilitate learning in mental health, safety, leadership and life skills. A compassionate critical thinker, I use lived experience of mental health crisis to develop caring and professional workplaces.
A wannabe 'pracademic', I hold a diverse mix of qualifications from environmental and analytical sciences to business psychology, safety, entrepreneurship and currently education.
I am a certified practitioner in OHS, change and psychological safety, ICF coaching member, Mental Health First Aid instructor, Meditation instructor and Mental Health Foundation advocate.
I facilitate on behalf of several credible organisations including AIMWA, Lifeline, Access Wellbeing Services and the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS). Most recently I've co-authored a chapter of the AIHS Body of Knowledge on Mental Health for Occupational Road Users and been a sessional lecturer in WHS at ECU.
I've developed the 'Fearless Teams' program for psychological safety, I also deliver a range of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses, coach and Facilitate clients content.
