Traditional workshop design often assumes that everyone processes information, communicates, focuses and participates in similar ways. In reality, people bring different cognitive styles, processing preferences, attention patterns, communication needs and ways of engaging with learning. Cognitive diversity is not the exception in a learning environment - it is the norm.
Building Neuroinclusive Learning Experiences explores how neurodivergence can show up in workshops and learning environments, and what facilitators and learning designers can do to create experiences that work for a wider range of participants. The workshop moves beyond simply understanding neurodivergence to focusing on practical changes that can make learning more accessible, flexible and engaging.
Through discussion, real-world examples and hands-on redesign activities, participants will explore common assumptions built into traditional workshop design and consider how these assumptions may unintentionally create barriers to participation. They will examine elements such as content structure, communication, instructions, activities, sensory considerations, pacing, participation and different ways of processing information.
Participants will apply inclusive design principles to their own learning experiences, identifying opportunities to remove unnecessary barriers and create greater flexibility in how people participate and demonstrate their learning. They will leave with practical strategies they can immediately apply to workshops, training programs, meetings and other learning environments, helping create experiences where neurodivergent and neurotypical participants alike have greater opportunity to engage, contribute and succeed.

Shaheen is an inclusive learning consultant, facilitator, and founder of Ta’leem Consulting. With over 13 years of experience across higher education, corporate L&D, and the social impact sector, she has trained facilitators, designed capability programs, and developed the Inclusive Learning Framework, which is now used to upskill trainers and teams in neurodivergence, multicultural communities, and inclusive design.
Shaheen is regularly invited to speak on topics including:
* How neurodivergence shows up in organisations
* Designing neuroinclusive strategies in the workplace
* Inclusive facilitation to engage more people
* Working with multicultural communities
* The basic principles of inclusive design
She regularly speaks at conferences, facilitates community engagement workshops, and trains L&D and HR teams in inclusive learning, with a consistent focus on one key question: How can organisations increase engagement and participation in workshops and training rooms?
Outside the training room, Shaheen spent several years as part of an improv theatre house team—an experience that proved surprisingly valuable for developing her ability to read a room, engage diverse audiences, and hold space, both on stage and in the workshop environment.
