This 1-day workshop (which can be delivered face-to-face or virtually) will give you a good understanding of how to connect to data, clean it up, write formulas (measures) to do the calculations you need and to how to present your data in compelling graphics (visualizations). To do this, you will get a good understanding of Power Query and Power BI Desktop, the two applications that do all the work. You will also be introduced the DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), the formula language for Power BI Desktop and you will have a brief look at “M”, the formula language for Power Query.
If you work with data, in any role (from administrative/support to data analyst to business analyst) and need to present it to others, this workshop is for you.
The workshop uses a generic dataset provided by Microsoft and obviEnce©(www.obvience.com). But do bring a sample of your data if you would like to talk about it. You will also be given a manual to follow during training and for future reference.
A laptop running Windows 10 or 11 with the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed and set up. Optionally, bring a mouse. Using a mouse is more efficient than the touchpad (but that it up to you).
Having been a senior executive (Wing Commander) in the Royal Australian Air Force, Pam is an experienced leader, manager and project manager. Today, she specialises in helping adult workers use Generative AI (including ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot) safely and effectively to improve productivity, decision-making and professional communication.
During her military career, Pam recognised early that computers would be powerful productivity tools if used well. She gained qualifications as a Microsoft Office Master (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MS Project), and as a business programmer. Following the advent of “big data”, she became proficient in Power BI Desktop and data visualisation design, helping data workers present their findings clearly and persuasively.
Throughout her three careers — as a military officer, as a database designer and developer, and as a learning and development facilitator — Pam has applied her project management and computing skills to “get the job done” with a minimum of wasted effort. Her GenAI facilitation focuses on practical workplace application: designing effective prompts, building reliable workflows, and ensuring responsible use in business settings.
The foundation of Pam’s professional achievements is excellent communication. She explains complex concepts in plain and simple terms, making the learning journey practical, engaging and enjoyable.
What is project management? Do you know if you are a project manager? Do you even know what a project is? If the answer is “no” to either question, you are in good company. Many people do projects without knowing it. And because of that, they do not enjoy the benefits that a project management […]
