In this series of four two-hour workshops, we'll build clarity around your vision for the coming year, translate it into a set of goals, then map the steps needed amidst potential roadblocks, then review and maintain focus.
They revolve around a series of targeted questions designed to craft clarity around the group's vision, and translate it into a set of goals. We then provide space to break that down into component activities, potential inhibitors, and map actionable paths forward.
First, we learn to play, LEGO Serious Play style.
Then we build in a moment of individual reflection.
Then we organise our ideas.
Lastly, we extract our insights and identify actions going forward.
Approaching complex tasks through hands-on play gives us much greater clarity in understanding the big picture, and what it takes to achieve it.
This can also be run as a single stand-alone workshop to launch an initiative.
This series can be run with a focus on individuals managing an autonomous workload, or for small teams needing to shape their collective action, and their individual efforts within that.
For face-to-face workshops, all workshop materials will be provided including use of the LEGO, relevant stationery, and a planning canvas/journal.
For remote workshops, contact me to discuss alternative arrangements for LEGO bricks.
Joel has built his career around helping people bring out their creative best, and to understand themselves better as learners and communicators.
Drawing on his roots in constructivist and constructionist learning, Joel uses the LEGO Serious Play method to help individuals, teams, and whole organisations do their best thinking by leaving their "outer grownup" at the door, and letting the inner child do the important work. We build the understandings we hold in our heads by building solutions to a challenge with our hands.
As an experienced learning designer, educator, and conscientious objector to ever fully growing up, Joel brings over a decade of facilitation experience to the table, along with a big pile of LEGO bricks.
He has worked with organisations as diverse as The Positivity Institute, SpacetoCo, Bethanie, the Department of Education, the Water Corporation, and RAC. His experience spans corporate, not-for-profit, government, health, education, and startups.

“Joel, you’re not taking this seriously!” I’ve heard that one a bit over the years. If there’s a joke to be made, I’ll make it. If there’s a lighter side to an issue, I’ll find it. If things aren’t looking great, I’ll be the one to attempt to lighten the mood with a little pinch […]
