About the facilitator
Julie is a compassionate leader and a born connector of people. She has trained with Dr Brené Brown and is a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator (CDTLF), a program which is based on Brené’s research and best seller book.
Brené defines a leader as “anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes and has the courage to develop that potential”. Dare to Lead™ is suitable for any individual regardless of their title or position, and the learning is especially powerful for intact teams and as a framework for positive work cultures.
As an experienced workshop leader, practitioner, lecturer, and researcher, Julie brings over thirty years of clinical and educational experience in the fields of leadership, organisational development, mentally healthy workplaces and psychological safety. She is an independent consultant and a lecturer in the School of Allied Health at the University of Western Australia, where most staff across six Disciplines are now Dare to lead™ trained. Julie feels honoured to share this globally recognised, transformative program with a wide variety of businesses, government and community organisations. Julie has delivered Dare to Lead™ workshops for: RAC, Chevron, Rio Tinto, Mid West Ports, Pritchard Francis, University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, Monash University, Investing In Our Youth, Child Australia, Ngala, Education Department, WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH)
Julie has also spent several years working closely with the mining industry, as a trauma support specialist, delivering training and was part of the research team that published the 2018 report on the ‘Impact of FIFO work arrangements on the mental health and wellbeing of FIFO workers’. She is currently leading a project funded by government to improve the mental health of employees in the resources sector and is the recipient of another grant to build leadership skills and psychological safety in health and human services in regional areas.
From her roots as a social worker to becoming a highly sought-after certified facilitator, Julie has been working to transform the lives of others her entire career. Her drive to make the world a braver place and facilitate genuine communication and connection is what makes her a leader in her field.
She has a penchant for good wine and deep conversations and believes even the smallest act can bring about tremendous change and that everyone has a story that matters.
