Philippa “Pip” Penfold is a widely recognised HR Technology and Responsible AI expert. Over her 20+ year HR career, she has managed technology implementations and the digital transformation of HR functions and companies in multinational organisations. Driven by a curiosity for AI ethics, Pip transitioned in 2018, and today focuses on providing HR and business with relevant education, advisory and research services in Responsible AI.
Australian by birth, Pip spent over a decade in Asia living and working across multiple countries in senior HR roles. Throughout her corporate HR career, Pip managed many technology implementations and supported HR functions and companies with their digital transformation, including the workforce impact of automation. Recognising the interdependence of each element (people, data and technology) and how they contribute to transformation success, Pip supports organisations to increase the likelihood of sustained digital transformation success and create tech-enabled people-centric businesses.
Pip is an active member of ForHumanity and is currently leading an algorithmic audit based on GDPR requirements with a Singapore based organisation. She is also an Advisor for the AI APAC Institute and Technology Committee Lead for the ASEAN Human Development Organisation. Pip combines her deep knowledge of evolving legislation and technology trends with her aspiration for a world of work in which human and artificial intelligences coexist in ways beneficial to both people and business. As a researcher, Pip explores the influence of AI in the workplace, human-machine blended teams and the evolving skillsets of HR professionals.
Penfold lectures at Universities in Singapore and Australia on Business Analytics, Ethics, Innovation and AI in HR, and is deeply engaged in the AI and Ethics debate. She is an Advisor for the AI APAC Institute and is the Technology Committee Lead for the ASEAN Human Development Organisation. In 2023 she was listed in the prestigious HR Executive Top 100 people in HR Technology globally. Pip also holds numerous qualifications including an EMBA and professional HR credentials and fellowships.
Underpinning Pip's broad experience and knowledge she holds an Executive MBA from the #1 ranked Kellogg-HKUST program, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from Oxford University’s Säid Business School and a Postgraduate Certificate in Change Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
