About the coach
Professional background
Ben has over 16 years of leadership experience in various roles from team leadership to middle management, as well as project and program management roles. Ben also spent 5 years in management consulting working for two of the “Big 4” accounting firms.
Ben’s career began working in the software industry, and since then he’s worked across multiple sectors including government, healthcare, utilities, aged care technology and resources. In 2014 Ben started writing online about leadership, a topic he is passionate about. He slowly grew a following and began coaching clients in the UK, USA, Europe, Canada and Australia while he was also working in leadership roles.
Fast forward to today Ben coaches and delivers leadership training across a variety of topics, including emotional intelligence, difficult conversations, communication skills, time management and motivation. He also regularly delivers individual and group PRINT debriefs to a variety of organisations. PRINT is Ben’s preferred psychometric tool because it resonates well with people, and we can easily apply it to help teams and individuals reflect on their own behaviour and how they can bring their “best self” to work more often.
Coaching process
Ben’s first session always includes a “visioning” discussion to set the direction for the coaching. During visioning, Ben discusses where the participant would like to be at the end of the coaching, which depends on the duration. After this session, Ben will send a 1-page coaching vision document to the participant, which they can review and adjust as they see fit.
Included in the process is a PRINT assessment, which is usually debriefed as part of the second coaching session. During the engagement, the coaching vision will be continuously reviewed to see how the coaching is progressing, but it is always up to the participant to decide what specific goal they would like to focus on in the session.
Ben acknowledges that there is no “one size fits all” process, as everyone’s needs are different, and their leadership situation is unique.
Coaching achievements and results
Ben tends to get his best results with emerging, and mid-senior leaders who he would describe as “thoughtful”. That is, people who may be quieter, introspective and perhaps would like to feel more confident in their leadership.
